Cyber security can be defined as the protection of systems, networks and data in cyber space. It refers to the preventative methods used to protect information from being stolen, compromised or attacked. The followings are the general information which may be helpful while using your Mobile/Computer/Laptop.If you are using Computer or Laptop
- It takes only a few seconds to secure your computer/laptop and help protect it from unauthorized access. Lock down your computer/laptop every time you leave your desk.
- Set up a screen-saver that will lock your computer/laptop after a pre-set amount of time and require a password to log back in.
Use Your Mobile Devices Securely
- Create a Difficult Mobile Passcode. Do not use your Birth Date or Bank PIN
- Install Apps from Trusted Sources
- Delete Unwanted Apps
- Keep Your Device always Updated. It is easy for the Hackers to use Vulnerabilities in the devices which are not updated.
- Turn on automatic system updates for your device.
- Make sure your web browser uses automatic security updates.
- Keep your web browser plugins like Flash, Java, etc. updated.
- Use anti-virus and anti-spyware software and update them regularly.
Use Strong Passwords
- Do not use more user-friendly password.
- The password should contain at least one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, one number, and four symbols but not the following &%#@_.
- Password must have at least eight characters and a maximum length of 64 characters.
- Don’t use the same password twice.
- Choose something that is easy to remember and never leave a password hint out in the open or make it publicly available for hackers to see
- Reset your password when you forget it. But, change it once per year as a general refresh.
- Change your Internet Banking password at periodical intervals.
- Don’t open email from people you don’t know
- Do not click on any links listed in an e-mail message. Copy and paste the URL into your browser.
- Never respond to requests for personal information via email
- Do not enter personal information in a pop-up screen.
- Malicious links can come from friends who have been infected too. So, be extra careful!
Backup Your Data Regularly
Backing up your data regularly is an overlooked step in personal online security. If you become a victim of ransomware or malware, the only way to restore your data is to erase your systems and restore with a recently performed backup.Don’t Use Public Wi-Fi
- Never connect to a Wi-Fi network that is unknown, for example, a coffee shop or public transport; unless you know the Wi-Fi is hosted by them and that they are reputable.
- Never connect to a Wi-Fi network that is not protected using WPA2 security or better.
- Never connect to a Wi-Fi network that is “Open” or has no security protection at all.
